The process of creating marbled paper is amazing.  Producing high quality marbled papers, and the preceding step of applying alum to the sheet is plagued with difficulty from most papers that are available today.  TALAS now provides paper specifically for marbling.  These papers accept the alum process and marble exceptionally well to help in achieving the best  artistic results.  

We now offer two papers that are well proven and successful for marbling.  Our Fine Art paper is a natural traditional paper which is excellent for marbling.  Our Wet Strength paper has an extra internal binder making it very forgiving in water and resists cockling and always dries flat and even.

Our Fine Art paper is an acid-free and archival paper.  Made from 100% Bleached Cellulose (no recycled and wood fibers) Fibers; and free of buffering agents, make it the ideal choice for Ebru or Suminagashi marbling.  It is available in two weights.  120gsm is approximately 80# text weight and the most typical weight used for making marbled papers.  Also available in a lighter weight 90gsm version.

Our Wet Strength paper is the paper used by Chena River Marblers (Regina & Dan St. John) and their marbling workshops they give around the country.  This is a cellulose paper saturated with a synthetic polymer which makes for a very smooth sheet that resists buckling and handles wet conditions very well.  Available in a single weight of 120gsm.  Sold in Packs of 25 and 250 Sheets. Sheet size: 19\" x 25\" (grain long)

Pescia is a wonderful printmaking paper and a favorite among those doing intaglio, messotint, aquatint, etching, woodblock, stone litho, etching and silkscreen. Its supple surface is also ideal for all drawing techniques and should not be overlooked as an option for graphite, colored pencil, pastel or charcoal. Also suitable as a heavier weight paper for pages in handmade photo albums and sketch books. 

The paper is smooth and supple to the touch with internal sizing but very little surface sizing, making it ideal for all deluxe and demanding printmaking processes. Magnani Pescia Paper is mouldmade in Italy from 100% cotton. It is chlorine-free, with neutral pH.

The paper prints extremely well, displaying rich, even tonality and deep blacks. The paper clears well in the solution baths and drys flat.

\r\n\r\nThe platinum printing process is quite challenging because of the amount of steps required to achieve positive final results. The paper is surface treated with a very specific platinum coating, then image exposure using ultra violet light (very similar to the photographic process of generating prints), then the paper goes through several steps of a clearing process by immersing the print in several bathes of acid-based solutions to remove the platinum particle coating from the sheet's surface.

\r\n\r\nThe lack of buffering agents and iron is very important because of the print’s interaction with acid-based solutions during the clearing process which only cause a negative balance in the generating of a final print.

A wonderful all purpose paper, Stonehenge is a 100% rag (cotton) sheet that is a true domestically manufactured multi-media sheet. It is suited for screen-printing, lithography, etching, embossing, pastels and watercolors. Stonehenge has a neutral pH (acid-free) buffered with calcium carbonate and comes with a flawless Antique Vellum finish and 2 deckle edges.

Stonehenge has the ability to take multiple layers of wax-based and oil-based colored pencil without any buildup, allowing colors to penetrate and absorb into the surface of the sheet.  

Stonehenge is also an excellent silkscreen paper with its ability to take as many as 50-75 colors, printed one color at a time, and maintain perfect color registration as a result of its incredible dimensional stability.
