The process of creating marbled paper is amazing. Producing high quality marbled papers, and the preceding step of applying alum to the sheet is plagued with difficulty from most papers that are available today. TALAS now provides paper specifically for marbling. These papers accept the alum process and marble exceptionally well to help in achieving the best artistic results.
We now offer two papers that are well proven and successful for marbling. Our Fine Art paper is a natural traditional paper which is excellent for marbling. Our Wet Strength paper has an extra internal binder making it very forgiving in water and resists cockling and always dries flat and even.
Our Fine Art paper is an acid-free and archival paper. Made from 100% Bleached Cellulose (no recycled and wood fibers) Fibers; and free of buffering agents, make it the ideal choice for Ebru or Suminagashi marbling. It is available in two weights. 120gsm is approximately 80# text weight and the most typical weight used for making marbled papers. Also available in a lighter weight 90gsm version.

Our Wet Strength paper is the paper used by Chena River Marblers (Regina & Dan St. John) and their marbling workshops they give around the country. This is a cellulose paper saturated with a synthetic polymer which makes for a very smooth sheet that resists buckling and handles wet conditions very well. Available in a single weight of 120gsm. Sold in Packs of 25 and 250 Sheets. Sheet size: 19\" x 25\" (grain long)
Murillo paper by Fabriano has a beautiful wove surface that makes it particularly suited for deluxe editions and other book arts. Its body and weight makes it ideal for embossing techniques, and it can also be used for printmaking and drawing, and light watercolor. Named after Bartolom Steban Murillo, these papers reflect his subtlety of color and texture.
The special texture of Murillo's surface and heavy 360 gsm weight are the principal features of this exquisite range of colors. Made from 15% cotton/85% sulphite, this neutral pH (acid free) paper is lightly externally sized and suitable for light water techniques. Sheets have two natural and two tear deckled edges.
Black Murillo is recognized as the most rigid acid free black paper anywhere.

This beautiful range of colored papers are made from locally sourced recycled cotton rags which produce the highest quality sheets of paper. The color are rich and complex, all sheets have four natural deckle edges, and a watermark in the lower right hand corner.
Sheets vary in size due to historic molds, but all are approximately 625 x 505mm (25 x 20 inches) in size and are 100gsm.
Paper Foundation staff trained under and ultimately inherited Griffen Mill upon the retirement of the former papermakers there, and are proud to continue to produce many of their papers. Paper Foundation was created to preserve the craft of papermaking by hand and to celebrate the remarkable material of paper. The organization was formed by Mark Cropper, a 6th generation papermaker, and chair of the prestigious James Cropper Paper Mill.

Akbar Brown - The strongest paper in the range. Akbar was originally developed for the repair of an ancient Quran in the collection of the British LIbrary. Made predominantly from strong abaca fibers, this is a dense and crisp paper suitable for use in soft bindings or as replacement endpapers, and other uses. This paper is brown in color, but also available in a softer hue as Akbar Natural.
Akbar Natural - Also known as Tutsan Wove. A lighter version of the Akbar Brown.
Early Cream (Mallow) & Early White - A cream or white colored book and conservation paper made from a blend of cotton, abaca, and raw hemp fibers. A strong, crisp, and versatile paper based on Griffen Mill's Early Cream Wove and Early White Wove papers.
Falcon - An off white paper with a subtle brown hue. Made on a distinctive “medieval” mould, using a blend of cotton, abaca, and hemp; giving it strong crisp qualities well suited for bookbinding and conservation.
Flax - A pleasant white sheet made of 100% flax fiber with versatile applications as a book, conservation, and printing paper.
Genet - A brown colored book and conservation paper made from a blend of cotton and abaca fibers.
Griffin (Rue) - A versatile warm toned paper made from a blend of cotton and abaca fibers.
Old Cleeve (Aster) - A cream colored bookbinding paper with a strong crist finish made on a distinctive medieval mould using cotton and abaca fibers. Based upon Griffen Mill's Old Cleeve Paper.

Pescia is a wonderful printmaking paper and a favorite among those doing intaglio, messotint, aquatint, etching, woodblock, stone litho, etching and silkscreen. Its supple surface is also ideal for all drawing techniques and should not be overlooked as an option for graphite, colored pencil, pastel or charcoal. Also suitable as a heavier weight paper for pages in handmade photo albums and sketch books.
The paper is smooth and supple to the touch with internal sizing but very little surface sizing, making it ideal for all deluxe and demanding printmaking processes. Magnani Pescia Paper is mouldmade in Italy from 100% cotton. It is chlorine-free, with neutral pH.
Please note: Sheets can vary between having two natural deckles and two tear deckles, two tear deckles and no deckles at all.
