This is to the perfect tool to consistently punch holes in the folded signatures of a book to prepare for sewing into a text block in bookbinding. The holes in the triangulated bar lead the awl straight down in the folds of a page. The screw at the base allows you to adjust the positions of the hole pattern.
It is the triangular block that sits on top of the folded signatures that makes this tool unique from others on the market. When punching multiple signatures it is essential that all holes are in the exact same place, and punching through the drilled holes in this wood block insures this.
Guide is approximately 12.5\" long with one open end to allow for longer paper to be punched. Distance between holes is 5/8\" and fit a 2mm awl. Awl for the Awl Guide is sold separately.
A bookbinders hammer is used to round the spine of a text block. These hammers are unique in that they have a dome shaped head, and a claw end without a notch that is rounded smooth. We have three styles available.
English Pattern (blue) A forged steel hammer with a round dome face and fine details. Head is approximately 1.5\" in diameter, overall length is 10\" and weighs 1 lb.
French Pattern (black or blue) Long sought after and now back in stock. Imported from England, The hammer has a larger round 1.5-1.75\" diameter head, an overall length of 12\" and weighs 1 lb.
The Square French pattern hammer is a unique hammer in its size and weight. It is significantly heavier than the other hammers (24 oz - 675 grams) and its pronounced 40mm square dome head is very useful for rounding. The length of the hammer is approximately 7.5 inches overall.
Brass edge boards are used for pressing books after a cover has been applied (casing-in.) These finished Baltic Birch Plywood boards are made with a plywood and brass strips applied along one long edge. The plywood is composed of 13 layers for unsurpassed rigidity, flatness and strength. This special plywood also provides excellent holding power for the brass which is screwed into the profile of the plywood sheet. The brass edge is flush with one surface of the plywood, and projects out from the other surface. The side on which the brass extends is used to crease and establish the hinge on the cover of a book cover. This hinge and associated groove in the cover is referred to a French Groove.

This all metal press combines the function of a standing and lying press, as well as a plough attachment in one unit. Jaws are 19.5\" wide and have a maximum opening of 9.25\". Optional accessories include a pair of conical (tapered or backing) jaws, thread sewing jaws, a Plough Plane, and a bottom stop. The Bottom stop is useful when using the press as a lying press and positioning a book with the proper exposure above the jaws before tightening.

The press is made of cast iron components and has a larger diameter threaded rod and the most robust components available. The usable area of the press is 10\" x 16\" and available in various opening sizes as selectable options above on the website. This press weighs 200 pounds and must be shipped by LTL truck.
Sewing frames are an essential piece of equipment for binding a book in Western style of sewing signatures on supports. Our sewing frames are made in the USA and accurately constructed of well-seasoned hardwood with deep cut threads on the uprights, and flat surfaces constructed of Baltic Birch cabinet grade plywood.
The sizes listed indicate the measurement between the screws, indicating the largest spine measurement of a book that can be sewn. A sewing frame is used in conjunction with sewing keys which can be found n our website here.
The height of the threaded spindles start at 12\" and go up to 26\" on the largest sizes
These heavy weight, solid brass keys are used for securing tapes or cords underneath a sewing frame. The \"A\" shaped keys are often referred to as cord keys and measure 5/8\" x 1 5/8\" wide. The \"H\" keys are referred to as tape keys, and measure 7/8\" wide and 1 3/8\" long.
